New Grand Island water lines nearly complete
by Associated PressExtension of Grand Island's water system is nearly complete for one neighborhood just outside city limits.
Early this fall, private wells for about two dozen Mary Lane Subdivision residents tested positive for industrial contamination. The city decided to extend its water lines to those areas.
Final tests on the pipes came back negative for contaminants, finishing work was to be done over the weekend, and the system should be running by Monday or Tuesday, utilities director Gary Mader said.
A similar expansion is taking place for the Kentish Hills Subdivision. That could be ready by the end of next month.
