AWWA VP Debra Kaye to be featured speaker at annual conference November 4-5
Debra Kaye’s career in the water industry began when she began reading water meters after graduating from high school. Her career path included assistant water plant operator, water plant operator, and foreman,while attending the University of Nevada, Reno where she earned a BS degree in Civil Engineering.
After completing her degree, Debra became a design engineer, designing pump stations, tanks, a sodium hypochlorite system, and some electrical substation structures. She designed a ventilation/cooling system for pump stations that became a company standard.
She is the president of Kayepability Consulting, and serves as a client services manager for Black & Veatch. In that capacity she, currently is working on an Integrated Water Resource Development plan for a growing desert city, focusing on development of a sustainable and diverse water supply.
Debra joined AWWA in 1990, and held numerous positions on the section level. At the association level, she served on the Conference Management Committee, Diversity and Member Involvement Committee, and the Young Professionals Committee.
She serves on the Board of Directors as a director from the California-Nevada Section, and as an association vice-president.
Debra has received numerous awards from the California-Nevada Section, as well as the George Warren Fuller Award. She received a special award for revisions to Nevada Administrative Code Operator Certification Regulations, and in 2006 she was among 200 extraordinary women engineers profiled in Changing Our World, edited by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
She and her husband Jeff live in La Quinta, CA.
