Fremont Wins Water-Tasting Contest
For the fourth consecutive year, Fremont's water was rated the best-tasting at the Nebraska Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) annual conference, held in Kearney November 6th and 7th. Water supply systems from around the state were invited to submit a sample of their drinking water for the fifth annual Best Drinking Water in Nebraska taste test. Other submissions came from the municipal water supplies in Aurora, Beatrice, Blair, Lincoln, Omaha (MUD), and Norfolk. A panel of six tasters were asked to rate the samples on a 1 to 10 scale for appearance, scent, flavor, and aftertaste.Fremont Water Superintendent Larry Andreasen said, "We get our water from the alluvial sands of the Dakota Aquifer, which is some of the best water in the world." Fremont's drinking water is treated with chlorine and fluoride. A polyphosphate is also added for manganese control. Fremont is now invited to submit a sample in the "Best of the Best" taste test competition at the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) in Boston in June. The Fremont water sample was voted the best-tasting in the nation at the ACE conference in 2012. Earlier this year, Fremont's water also competed in the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting contest, placing 2nd in the 1st round and 14th in the final round of the international competition.
