Mid-Year Chair's Report

Wow! The 4th of July was last week, which is hard to believe -- time continues to speed by. Remember when 9 weeks seemed like an eternity? There are times I wish it would be that way again.

Even with the increase in speed, our Section has been busy. The Water for People committee hosted another successful Golf Tournament, and has a Clay Shoot scheduled for September 29th. Our Community Engineer Corps committee has chosen a community water system to assess. And the Nominations committee has presented their nominations for Officers and Trustees serving the Section. Thanks to everyone for their hard work -- your work ethic makes us a strong Section.

The Nebraska Section board held meeting via conference call on July 13 to discuss several issues shaping our future:

Issue #1: Changes are coming to the Drinking Water Program on August 1st, as NDEQ and DHHS will be working together. As with any change, many people are discussing and wondering what the future holds for us all. Your Section takes a lot of interest in this development.

Issue #2: Section Retreat (August 18th, 9:00 until 4:00, at St. Benedict Center in Schuyler). Thanks to Milo Rust, Rich Koenig, and Bruce Dvorak for their work in finding a location. Tentatively, we plan to discuss Top Ops rules of participation, exploring CD investments for our Section, and membership communication.

Issue #3: Fall Conference. Eric Melcher has complied a proposed agenda with many interesting topics. A reminder that the dates for the Fall Conference are adjusted due to Veterans Day. The dates of the conference are scheduled for November 7th to 9th, with our banquet will be held November 7th. A preconference will be held November 6th and the Poker Tournament will be on November 7th.
